If you haven’t started to plan your trip abroad to practice your language skills, you probably will after this post. Travelling is number one studying technique that will take your speaking to the next level if you immerse yourself entirely in the world of the language you are learning.
It took me about eleven years of school to “learn” English, and guess what? When I came to England, I struggled so much, trying to understand what is said to me. It was a dreadful experience, and I was so unexposed to different accents. It didn’t take long before I became fluent and passed my language exam with ease. If I have travelled before, I would probably save myself a lot of time.
You may be put away by the high cost of moving abroad, plus the sacrifice you must make (you leave your friends behind, or take a gap year from your school or your career). The benefit of becoming fluent in English (or any other language) is priceless. Regarding the costs, it doesn’t need to be that expensive. You can work abroad to help you cover the costs of the trip. You will gain an international working experience, which will make you stand out on the job market.
Although it is a lonely experience at first, you will make new friendships, and expand your network.
Deciding to leave your country, even for a short while, is a huge step. Naturally, you will be afraid. You will probably find a million reasons why you should stay. If you want to grow, and speed up your learning, travelling will help you with that. So go ahead and pack your suitcase, see you on the plane!
